Update on hair incident...

I forgot to post a picture of this earlier in the week. I have had several people asking about poor little Garrison's hair...After the terrible hair cut Dana gave Garrison, we waited patiently for the weekend to be over and went to Angie, who cuts our hair, for help. Garrison has never had her cut his hair before because Aggie usually cuts his. However, we figured this was a job for a professional. So, even though I was the only one with an actual appointment, both boys went for a cut. Thankfully, she had time for us all! Garrison went first and he did great! He took his cap off and told Angie, "Will you fix my hair? My daddy messed it up!" She had to cut ALOT off to even it out. He never moved a muscle while she was working on him. She said it should last him all summer! She also told him to run if his daddy got the clippers out anymore! Keyton wanted his cut really short for ball camp so he wouldn't sweat so much! I think he also wanted to look like his daddy and brother... So, he got it cut shorter than he usually does. Then, finally the one with the appointment got to get hers cut. I got 4 inches cut off of mine. It was a 'snippy' day for the Dowdy household. (Dana will not need another hair cut for several weeks...hopefully when he does, he will make time for Angie to help him out! ) ......... By the way, my mom does not like none of their hair this short. They have, however, had several compliments on it and I am sure it will be much cooler for them during the hot summer weather!

Keyton went to a basketball camp this week. It was Tuesday-Thursday from 2:00-5:00. He had so much fun! It was a big step for him. He even wore shorts and he will never wear shorts for some reason. I was very proud of him. He tried really hard and listened to everything the coaches told him. He even came home and tried to give me some lessons. He had camp at home with Garrison. Keyton acted like the coach and Garrison was the camper! Garrison and I stayed and watched him everyday. Garrison was so good. Keyton came and got Garrison every time they had a break. He took him out on the floor and played with him. When they blew the whistle, Garrison knew it was time to come back to me. Since today was the last day of camp, all of the campers were presented a certificate and and brand new basketball! Keyton was so excited to get that ball. He says we have to get a basketball goal now because the coaches told him to practice this summer. Sounds good to me...I have been wanting one for myself anyway!

We had a small family cookout at our house today. It was so much fun! I served steaks, hamburgers, hot dogs, ham, potato salad, baked beans, cole slaw, corn, and brownies. It was so much fun having several family members at our house. We had a great time talking and playing outside. Christopher came a little early to do the grilling for me since Dana was having to finish up rolling our hay before it rains. We plan on doing this many more times this summer. Nothing is more fun than being outside having fun with your family enjoying the beautiful summer days!

Today was a great day. I only had to go to school for one hour and pass out report cards and now I am FREE for the summer! Yay! I get to play with my boys! Keyton helped Dana in the hay all day. They cut and rolled hay. Pa-Pa raked the hay for them. Garrison and I played, went walking, and ran some errands. It was a really low key day until....Dana decided to give himself a haircut before going to work. Yes, I DID say give HIMSELF a haircut! He has attempted this before with horrid results! He purchased a set of clippers and has used them on a few occasions. He started cutting it and then asked me to take over. I hate doing this! I am not good at it and it never turns out well. I did the best I could without shaving him bald. Then he felt of it and decided it wasn't short enough so he went over it again! Now, Dana USED to have thick hair, but that was YEARS ago, so he cut it so close that his "thinning" areas became very visible. Even Keyton, who thinks he has the cutest daddy in the universe, told him he looked HORRIBLE! You should have seen Dana's face. Garrison, who had been watching all this in awe, came up on the porch where this catastrophe was taking place and asked his daddy to cut his hair with the clippers. I told Dana to only lightly run it through the back. TOO LATE! He ran it all over and not so lightly. My precious boy is almost bald! What makes it worse is that Dana got is a great deal shorter on one side. Keyton said "Oh no! Garrison doesn't look like my baby anymore!" Keyton got on the phone and called my mom...that's why Dana is in BIG trouble. She loves Garrison's little curls and waves and she is furious with Dana. He better get new running shoes because she is coming to check it out tomorrow. She called 3 times tonight and asked about it every time. Garrison told my mom, "My daddy ruied my hair, but my mommy says I'm still cute." He would be cute to me even if he were bald! His hair grows fast...thank goodness, but he will probably be wearing a cap for a few weeks! What a day!

Growing Miracles

Dana is off this week so the boys have been getting to help with a little "hard work" around the house in the evenings. This week, they helped with working in the yard. Dana let them help spread Miracle Grow around the trees. They loved that! They even wore plastic gloves to be safe. I thought is was a cute sight to look out the window and see them "feeding" the trees. They used all we had so it may be a "Miracle" if they "Grow!" :-)

The boys got their shirts really dirty at my mom's house today. I think they got too many treats all over them. When I arrived to pick them up, I found them looking rather cute in big white t-shirts. She had put their other shirts in to wash. She had extra clothes for Garrison but not Keyton, so she let him wear one of my Daddy's old t-shirts. She said that Garrison cried for one of Poppy Bud's shirts too. So...they both got to wear one. Keyton even brought home an extra one to keep as a sleep shirt. They looked so sweet in them and I couldn't help think about how proud my Daddy would be that they enjoyed wearing his old t-shirts so much. These little guys make the most ordinary things seem so special to me.

A few months ago when Tammy was over here spending time with the boys, she created a house for them out of a hot water heater box. They adore this! They have played and played in this thing! They ask to play in it every week. She wrote their names on it and cut out windows and doors. She even let them draw some cool designs on it. It truly is a work of art! :-) It has always amazed me that kids love boxes so much more than they do expensive toys. I am going to let them keep it as long as they want to...it is fun for me to watch them have so much good old fashioned fun! Thanks Tammy! We love you!

Well, today was a day of tears. I started crying this morning when I walked Keyton to Kindergarten for the last time. then, Mrs. Angie gave me a memory book and picture they had made us and more tears came flowing. I cried 6 times throughout the day at school. Keyton was acting so happy and so grown up today. He was especially hyper all evening. He was so excited when we got to the gym. I could barely keep him still! Garrison was equally as hyper! I did a pretty good job of holding back my tears at the actual ceremony. I did shed a few toward the end. He was so cute posing with all of his friends. He put his arm around every one of them. He really has come a long way since the beginning of school. I am so thankful for his teacher, Mrs. Angie B. She has been so kind and patient with him. He loves her very much! We took Keyton to eat after graduation. Christopher, Whitney , & Aggie went with us. Keyton had a great time and says he can't wait to see what 1st grade is all about! I cannot believe that my baby is going into 1st grade though. It really seems like yesterday that I brought him home from the hospital. He is so precious to me. I am very proud of my little Kindergarten Graduate!

This morning after the boys got dressed for church, they wandered off and put on caps and sunglasses. Keyton said they were just going to wear them to the church parking lot! They looked adorable and they stole their daddy's heart in them because he took about 10 pictures of them! Keyton received a bible today at church for his upcoming Kindergarten Graduation. Garrison walked up there with him to get it. It was a big step for Keyton that he walked up in front of everyone to accept it. We were very proud of him. Maybe he will stop being quite as shy. I received several little handmade trinkets from the boys as well as flowers. They are my pride and joy. It doesn't have to be Mother's Day for me to know that I am ...One Lucky Mom!

Today was the annual Kindergarten Zoo Trip. We went to the Knoxville Zoo. Keyton has been so excited for this day to arrive. We had never taken him to the zoo, so this was extra exciting for him! We all had matching zoo shirts...lime green! They were very cute. The art teacher at our school, Ms. Patti, drew the picture that went on the front of them. Keyton awoke much easier than usual this morning. As soon as he opened his eyes, he shouted, "Zoo Day!" This group of kids were all very well behaved and there were no problems at all. We were worried it was going to rain on us or that we would have a bad storm. We were lucky though. It only drizzled for a little bit and waited till we were leaving to rain hard. We only had to use our ponchos and umbrellas a few minutes. We had a great day looking at all of the interesting animals. The monkey family and the bears were the main attractions for our little group of boys. They really liked them! Keyton bought Garrison 2 gifts at the gift shop. Garrison was super excited to get them and he hugged Keyton and thanked him for the "prizes." We had a great day and Keyton is already got us a trip planned for this summer to the Nashville Zoo to see if it has anything different! :-)

Garrison and I had some time alone this evening. Keyton went with his Daddy to my mom's to help with the garden. He loves doing that! Garrison and I headed out for a walk. Let me tell you that pushing my big boy in his stroller is not easy! I am hoping it will help me shed a few pounds! He is heavy! He waved at every car that passed us. He loves waving! When we got back, he wanted to sit on the trailer and talk. That was alot of fun! After that, I pulled him in the wagon for a little bit. I made some sweet pictures of him in the wagon with his doggy "Poochie." Poochie also went with us on the walk. I loved this special time with my little sweetie. He is such a funny little boy.

** One thing I want to remember is that last night that commercial came on where the dog is singing, "There ain't no bugs on me, there ain't no bugs on me. There may be bugs on some of you mugs, but there ain't no bugs on me!" My boys LOVE this! Well, Garrison has been listening to the gardening talk a little too much because he decided to say, "There ain't no bugs on me, but there is some on Aggie's mater plants!" Too funny! We all cracked up when he came up with that! That is the truth too. She had been having to spray her tomato plants to kill the bugs for the past two days! I love it!**

The boys were so excited all day because Whitney was going to be coming over after church to spend the entire evening with them! They had been missing having Whitney over as much because she is so busy with school and dance and music lessons. So, today she was free and my boys were ready to play! When she got here, we were all sitting out on the trailer waiting on her. They started clapping when she was coming down the driveway. Tammy was a little jealous that she hadn't ever had that kind of welcome before! :-) We went for a nice walk together and then she played with them on a big pile of gravels in front of the shed. They played like it was a slide. They were so dirty but had so much fun! After that, we all just played around in the yard and went to see the goats and chickens. Finally we went in to play Wii. She rocks at Guitar Hero! She helped me beat a song I was having trouble with. Garrison once again collapsed on us while watching Keyton & Whitney play Wii golf. I think that game bores him. Keyton is already wanting to take real golf lessons! The boys had a great day with Whitney and they wanted her to spend the night, but she wasn't prepared to stay tonight. They will be excited to have more days like this with her when summer vacation gets here. We all love Whitney very much!

Keyton was in the Annual Kindergarten Tom Thumb Wedding this year. It was held for the public Thursday night and again for the school children on Friday morning. The theme was The Oldies. Keyton played the part of Richie Cunningham from Happy Days. I had to do research to help with his costume because I had only seen that show a couple of times. They all did a wonderful job! It was very cute. I was so nervous for him, but he took it all in stride and did a great job. They all had dancing parts to do after the wedding was over. That was the best part...he can really boogie! We laughed so hard at him! It was good to see him loosen up a little and not be so shy all of the time! Garrison wanted to be out on the floor with Keyton. He even talked my mom into bringing him back for the school show on Friday morning. He cried when he had to leave...he wanted to stay there with me so he could play with Keyton and all of his buddies. All of Keyton's friends loved hugging and kissing on Garrison. It was so cute! Keyton was very proud. I always cry at the Tom Thumb wedding. I don't know why. I guess I always thought "One day it will be my babies doing this." Now that time is here and once again...I cried. I was also sad my daddy was not here to see this. But, the thing that helped me through that was the fact that I could imagine just what his face would have looked like if he had been watching Keyton. I knew him so well that I know just what he would have said and how hard he would have laughed. He, too would have been very pleased with Keyton! I dread Kindergarten Graduation! :-(
